Picketline solidarity is one of the foundations of trade unionism.
When you're on a picket line, sometimes it's the small things you appreciate most.

********************************************* WINGS STRIKE On August 13 workers at Wing’s Torlake in Toronto took to the picket lines to begin strike action against their employer. The UFCW Local 175 members had voted overwhelmingly in favour of strike action earlier this month and, following five days of negotiations and two in mediation, it became clear to the Union’s negotiating committee that no reasonable progress would be made. The 140 full-time employees are fighting for job security, better wages, vacation, and hours of work, and to put a stop to the employer’s constant attempts to prevent the Union from representing the workers. www.ufcw175.com ********************************************* USW ON STRIKE AT CROWN METAL The 120 members of Steelworkers Local 9176 went on strike on September 6, 2013. The company demanded the elimination of the cost of living allowance (COLA) and the
establishment of a two tiered wage system. Unfortunately, they have consolidated labour relations at its headquarters in the United States and have little knowledge of the unique nature and issues of the Crown Metal plant in Toronto, Canada. Despite earning $8.5 billion in net sales in 2012, Crown is nickel-and-diming employees at one of the most productive beverage and food can plants in North America.
